One of the lesser-known statues in a city filled with monuments and memorials is the Albert Einstein Memorial, located in the southwest corner of the National Academy of Sciences near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The four ton, 12 foot statue features scientist Albert Einstein holding manuscripts in his left hand.
It is set in a circular platform with 2,700 metal studs representing the location of astronomical objects on the day the memorial was dedicated in 1979. Engraved on the papers held in Einstein’s hand are three of his most famous formulas. Other engravings feature three of his most famous quotes.
Located near several other Washington D.C. attractions and hotels like the State Plaza and Hotel Lombardy, the Albert Einstein Memorial should be a stop on any and all area sightseeing tours.
