The Biological Park is one of the major attractions in the city of Alburquerque, in the desert of New Mexico.
Set in the desert of New Mexico, Albuquerque, the largest city in the state, has a number of interesting and enjoyable sights and activities to offer the tourist. The city may have started as a small, Spanish town in the eighteenth century, but today, it’s a sprawling metropolis. One of the major attractions in Albuquerque is the Biological Park – a collection of zoo, botanical gardens, aquarium and beach that offers plenty of family friendly fun – great if you’re travelling with children! Museums are another attraction, but with interesting options like the Balloon Museum, the Rattle Snake Museum, and the Nuclear Science Museum, this is no boring trip down memory lane! Thanks to its roots in both Spanish and native American cultures, the city also offers education in these, and the Indian Pueblo and National Hispanic Cultural Centers are a great place to learn more about the people that live, and lived, in and around the city. Rio Grande Valley State Park, and the nature centre, offer visitors to the city the chance to explore and learn about this beautiful natural canyon, and the Sandia Mountains offer hiking and rock climbing in the summer, and skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Make sure you plan your trip in October, and it will coincide with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta – a phenomenal sight as hot air balloon enthusiasts from around the world converge on the city to fly their beautiful craft, and test their skills. In fact, if you want to try it yourself, there are several companies in the city that offer balloon charter flights, so you can do just that – float over the desert in a multi color balloon! Art, crafts, restaurants and shopping malls are dotted all throughout the city, and the Old Town part of the city offers plenty in the way of souvenirs and gifts. New Mexican cuisine is also something that you must sample while in Albuquerque, and there are many restaurants that serve traditional dishes – just be warned that most are often covered in chili sauces and spices, so if you prefer your food milder, make sure you ask for it that way! Hyatt Regency, Sheraton and several other international hotel chains are represented in Albuquerque, as are many cheaper establishments, as well as some pricier but infinitely luxurious boutique hotels, so once you’ve explored, shopped, and dined, there’s sure to be somewhere comfortable to rest your head.
