Altstadt
Altstadt (Salzburg) The Alstadt of Salzburg, same with other Alstadts in Europe, is located within the center of the city. The Alstadt is one of the five administrative divisions of the city of Salzburg. This district shares most of its history with its parent city itself. Considered as the oldest part of Salzburg, the Altstadt was also an important spiritual and cultural center of this great city and even the entire state of Austria. Actually, Salzburg formerly belonged to Bavaria but was ceded to Austria in the 14th century. However, it was only until the 18th century that it was officially taken over by Austria This old part of Salzburg was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site due to its numerous and priceless monuments. It is also a home to many of the city's universities (Salzburg is considered as Europe's University City). Here one can find the Mozarteum and the Private Medical University. Hundreds of thousands of tourists tour the city every year to visit many of the natural wonders in Salzburg and the Altstadt. One of the main attractions is the Hohe Tauern National Park that preserves the beauty of Baroque art and architecture. These sites can be visited anytime of the year, even during winter. This great city is located between the main routes of the country. The city transport system itself is excellent and tourists can visit the Old City on foot, car, or through rented vehicles which are abundant in the area. Hoping for a longer stay in the Altstadt?
