Canada Attractions
Each of Canada’s provinces is well equipped with splendid attractions. Ontario is home to the Niagara Wine Region and the famous Niagara Falls as well as a vibrant multicultural setting, while the North territory is home to snow covered mountains, glaciers and beautiful lakes. For amazing skiing and hiking opportunities, British Colombia which encompasses Vancouver, has the superb Rocky Mountains, rainforests and a flourishing wildlife. Then there is the Canadian Prairies with its forests and farm towns and places like Edmonton and Winnipeg, and the French speaking Quebec with the romantic streets of Montreal, historic Quebec City and intriguing traditional villages. The Atlantic Provinces such as Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia are famous for their vibrant fishing villages and traditional folklore. Canada offers several exciting outdoor adventures. Kayaking on the splendid rivers of the Northern Saskatchewan is a must while there are several opportunities for skiing and snow sports in places like Cain’s Quest in Newfoundland, Labrador, British Colombia and other places surrounding the Rocky Mountains. You can also view Polar Bears in Manitoba, tour the Rideau Waterway in Ontario or paddle the Bloodvein in Manitoba. Whale watching can be done in Orcas, Belugas and Narwhals while a great summer can be had canoeing, rejuvenating at a hot spring or diving under the Midnight Sun in the Yukon area. You can even walk on the sea floor, go rafting or enjoy a picnic on the coasts of Newfoundland and Brunswick. British Colombia offers exciting opportunities for Pacific storm watching and Grizzly Bear viewing while healthy climate countryside environment of the Laurentians in Quebec is ideal for cycling, hiking and walking. The diverse wildlife in Alberta, British Colombia and Manitoba should not be missed. Canada is home to several picturesque natural parks. These include the world renowned Banff National Park in the Alberta Rockies with its stunning lakes and snow covered mountains, the Interlake Area, Terra Nova National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park and Saint John River Valley. There is also the Cariboo-Chilcotin in British Colombia famous for the scenic Fraser Canyon and its unspoilt coast, the Yoho National Park, Algonquin Park in eastern Ontario and Cape Breton Island. There are also a number of intriguing cultural itineraries to be explored as well. You can try the freedom rails in south west Ontario, visit the Riel Rebellion’s heartland in Saskatchewan and explore the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, the Covered Bridges in New Brunswick, Pier 21 in Halifax and the Anne of Green Gables site on Prince Edward Island. The Signal Hill history in Newfoundland is a must do. Also worth trying is the UNESCO trail which covers interesting World Heritage Sites in the country where places like the Joggins Fossil Cliffs and the Tyrannosaurus Rex in Alberta can be explored. A variety of great museums with remarkable collections and displays can be found in Canada’s provinces. The National War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilisation can be found in Ottawa, while the Glenbow Museum and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Museum is located in Calgary. The historic museum of Whiteherm sits in Hamilton, the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Bata Shoe Museum and the Toronto Zoo can be found in Toronto. The Yukon Transportation Museum, Old Log Church Museum, and the Canadian Museum of Human Rights are located in Winnipeg and should not be missed. Canada is home to many traditional and trendy restaurants of a multicultural background. Cities like Ottawa, Toronto and Winnipeg offer superb shopping, gastronomic and entertainment facilities in the form of theatres, modern cinemas, bars, pubs and recreational centres. Several exciting annual events mark each season in the country. The Cariblues Festival, Scotia Festival of Music and the Saskatchewan International Film Festival for Young People occur in spring while the National Aboriginal Day celebrations, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, Calgary’s Reggae fest and Winnipeg’s Folklorama are held in summer. Also in that season are the energetic Montreal Jazz and Comedy festivals and the London Rib-fest. Autumn sees the large Oktoberfest celebration similar to that of Germany’s while winter is the time for Carnival de Québec among other sports fetes.
Canada Weather
Canada’s climate has a general hot summer period and very cold winters with higher variations at inland areas than at the coasts. Those areas closets to the USA in southern Canada have the most variation in temperatures with high summer temperatures in places like Ontario and British Colombia. Winnipeg and Manitoba are known for their rock bottom low temperatures during the winter. Closer to the Arctic regions, snow is seen all year round. The Atlantic Provinces for example experience severe blizzards during the winter. The Canadian Prairies with its vast open lands are subjected to some of the highest extremes in temperature.
Canada Hotels
Canada boasts a wide range of accommodation facilities with some of the country's most well known landmarks being hotels. Major cities are equipped with superb luxury hotels, sophisticated winter chalets in the ski areas and wonderful mid range and budget facilities, holiday homes, camp sites and cabins in other areas such as the natural sites. Among the most luxurious star rated hotels are the Loews Hotel Voque in Montreal, the Opus Hotel in Vancouver, the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto and the Hastings House on Salt Spring Island. There is also the beautiful Post Hotel on Lake Louise in Alberta, the Keltic Lodge on Ingonish Beach, the Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in British Colombia which is a superb stay for winter travellers. The Fairmont Palliser in Calgary, Four Seasons Toronto and the Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver are excellent hotels as well. Most of these are well equipped with facilities for business and holiday seekers. Canada offers a unique variety of attractions for all kinds of travellers.
