There are numerous museums in the city of Chicago, which will help you to learn more about the nistory of the area.
Chicago, otherwise known as the Windy City, is a huge city in America’s Midwest, spread out along the shores of Lake Michigan, and divided into several districts. It started out as the home of the Potawatomi tribe, and it’s hard to believe that this modern metropolis, with its skyscrapers, was little more than a fort in the early 19th century. O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport both serve the city of Chicago, so making your way to the city is no problem. Once there, as you’d expect from such a major US city, there’s a more than adequate public transport system, with taxis, buses, trains and trolleys in the Navy Pier area. Most of the museums in Chicago are centrally located, in an area known as ‘Near South.’ Here you’ll find the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum of Natural History. A short distance away, you’ll find the Museum of Science and Industry, in an area known as Hyde Park. Lincoln Zoo, in the Lincoln Park area is a great, free day trip, and there are plenty of other museums and attractions to see. One of the best ways to save when exploring is to get a Go Chicago Card, or a CityPass, which will allow you entry to many of these. Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous architect, designed some of his first buildings for Chicago, and the city is also the home of the skyscraper, and is home to America’s tallest building, the Sears Tower, and plenty of other impressive structures. Architectural tours of the city will take you on a tour of these and other buildings, and it’s well worth wandering around, admiring the famous skyline. When in Chicago, you have to sample the world famous signature deep dish pizza, but there are thousands of restaurants in this city. Fortunately, they are quite well divided into neighborhoods, and Greektown, Chinatown and others each offer a different kind of cuisine. Chicago is also famous for its jazz and blues, and while there are bars, pubs, clubs and other entertainments of every description, a trip to Green Mill in the Uptown area, or the original House of Blues, is a must do when in the city. The city has every hotel chain you could imagine represented, from Holiday Inn to the Hilton, and many boutique hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts, so the choice in accommodation is vast. What you will want to remember is that most of the attractions are in or near the areas known as the Loop, and Near North, and that is where you would ideally like to book.
