The city of Cannes is centered around the old port, edged by the lengthy Boulevard de La Croisette. The historic character is evident within the Le Suquet quarter overlooking the west end of Vieux Port. See the 12th century Tour de Mt. Chevalier, Notre-Dame-de-l'Espérence which give a touch of medieval flavor to the city. Take the meandering narrow streets climbing up and around the hill of Le Suquet and enjoy the fine view from the top. Take a short boat trip from Cannes in the Ile Saint Honorat and its ancient Abbaye Notre Dame de Lérins monastery. Explore Cannes many museums like the Musée de la Castre, which is home to an array of Mediterranean antiquities and archaeological treasures. Also worth exploring are the artifacts from shipwrecks at the Maritime Museum, and the striking modern art works at both the Galerie de la Malmaison and the Bellini Chapel Museum. Enjoy the miles of beaches along the Golfe de la Napoule or along La Croisette in the Rade de Cannes and include the Plages du Midi and also the Plages de la Bocca, where water sports are plentiful.
