AWD-Arena
AWD-Arena AWD-Arena is a football stadium located in Hanover, Germany. It is the home ground of Hanover 96, a Bundesliga football team. It was built between 1952 and 1954 and had an original capacity of over 86,000-seat places. For the construction of this stadium, a huge debris Walls was used. The debris came from Hanover's buildings destroyed in World War II bombing raids and the costs amounted to four million DM. Until 2003, meetings were held in the rebuilding of Lower Saxony Stadium 29 matches, four German championship finals, nine DFB Cup finals, two DFB-Supercup finals and a game in the European Cup Winners' Cup. It was also the scene of several German Lower Saxony Stadium athletics championships, the German Turnfest from international matches and final matches in the German field handball, rugby and American football. Before handing over to an operating company, it was also used for charitable purposes. Since the performance of the Rolling Stones in 1982, the stadium has become a popular venue for rock and pop stars. Since then it has developed for the open-air concert featuring the number one place in Northern Germany. On 22 August 2006 Madonna appeared as part of its controversial and headline-Confessions Tour in front of 40,000 fans at the AWD Arena. Today it has 49,000 covered seats. During the 2006 football World Cup the stadium was named FIFA World Cup Stadium Hanover. Hannover 96 had rented the stadium naming rights at the Lower Saxony in 2002 for five years in the financial services provider AWD and extended the rental 2007, at a further five years. Courtyard by Marriott Hannover Maschsee Hotel is a great place to accommodate at rates starting from 50 euro per night.
