The amphitheatre was built during the 1st century and was the site of many fights by gladiators in the past. By the building is the impressive Arch of Constantine built in the 4th century. There are several intriguing museums to be visited in Rome. The Capitoline Museum has remarkable Greek and Roman sculptures and works by the famous artist Michelangelo. Michelangelo’s lifestyle and works can be seen in several places in the city. There is also the National Roman Museums, the Etruscan National Museum of Villa Giulia, the Palatine Museums and the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo. The Borghese Gallery and the National Museum of Palazzo Venezia should not be missed. The Museum of Rome in Trastevere is a level anthropology site while specialised museums such as the Wax Museum, the National Museum of Pasta and the Rome Jewish Community Museum can also be visited. Rome’s amazing squares, churches and fountains add to the historic charm of the city. The masterpiece Fountain of the Four Rivers can be seen in one of the city’s most beautiful squares, the Piazza Navona. Other religious sights include the Santa Maria Maggiore, Saint John in Lateran and Saint Clement. Also worth looking at are the Roman Aqueducts, the Baths of Carcalla, the Catacombs and the Appian Way. There are many wonderful places in the city for children and families as well. These include the the Time Elevator, the Planetarium, the Zoomarine with dolphins, sea lions and other aquatic animals as well as a fabulous swimming area, and the Children’s Museum. Many beautiful parks and gardens exist in the city, some with a lovely river view. A wide range of modern and traditional shopping facilities exist in the city, as well as local Italian and international restaurants with all kinds of delicacies. Rome’s nightlife is very intense with several bars, pub and clubs opened until the wee hours of the morning especially during the summer. You can be entertained by cultural shows and operas at underground theatres or at magnificent institutions like the Teatro Argentina or Sistina. The Carcalla Baths is quite popular in summer with entertainment, sports and rejuvenating opportunities. Europe’s largest film and television production studio, the Cinecittà Studios, can be found in Rome. Modern movies can be enjoyed at the city’s cinemas.
