Ikebukuro Station is a train station located in the Ikebukuro district in Toshima, Tokyo. Opened in 1903 by the National Railway, the station is the second-busiest train station in the world, serving 2.71 million passengers on a daily average as measured in 2007. The station serves passengers coming from the Saitama and other areas that lie northwest of the city center. The two main entrances are the East and the West Exits with such secondary entrances as the JR North exit, the Seibu exits and multiple subway exits.
Attractions one can find near Ikebukuro Station, from shopping places to pubs and restaurants. One will find that two of the largest department stores in the world, Seibu and Tobu are just a few steps away from the station. The stores dominate the entire area that encloses the station, not to mention the skyline. The Seibu side of the station is the denser and more active compared to the Tobu side of the station, although one will find that Ikebukuro Station is still quite busy even during the non rush-hour times. Another great attraction is the Sunshine 60 building. With its 60 floors this towering behemoth of glass and steel used to hold the title as the tallest building in Tokyo. Sunshine City lies at the base of the building, another landmark that holds its own set of attractions for the curious visitor.
