Hollywood is one of the biggest attractions in Los Angeles, the second largest city in America.
Los Angeles, California, or just LA, is what most people think of when they think of the US. Huge, sprawling, and varied in its people and culture, it’s the second largest city in America. There are six airports in Los Angeles, but the best known and most popular is LAX International Airport, and while there are trains, buses and taxis in the city, getting around almost demands that one has a car. One of the biggest attractions in LA must be Hollywood, and one of the biggest there is Hollywood Boulevard, with its Walk of Fame, and Grauman’s Chinese Theater, where you can see if you ‘measure up’ to big name stars – at least whether your hands do – on the star embedded sidewalk. The Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not are also attractions worth visiting in the Hollywood Boulevard area. There are also studio tours, where you can visit the sets of some of the biggest movies ever made, or places in the city, like Mulholland Drive, which has been the setting for some very famous movie scenes. Many tour companies and fly by night operators will sell you maps to stars homes, or take you on a tour. Aside from the movie business, there’s a fair amount of history and culture in Los Angeles. Like the famous Olvera Street, where the oldest building in the city still stands, and Union Station, which is both the main rail hub for the city and a historic site. The Getty Centre is a huge museum with extensive gardens, and for art lovers, the Museum of Contemporary Art is a good choice, and the Page Museum at La Brea Discoveries offers fascinating paleontological discoveries on exhibit, from Saber Toothed Tigers to Giant Sloths. Thanks to its ethnic diversity, there are many areas of the city where you will find clusters of different races and cultures – for instance Chinatown, Little Persia, Little India and others. All of these can be interesting to browse shop and eat in. Fans of adrenaline will love the Six Flags Magic Mountain, with its roller coasters, and the neighboring Hurricane Harbor. It is a way outside of the centre of town, at Santa Clarita, but its well worth a visit, particularly if you are travelling with children. Shopping is another time honored pass time in Los Angeles, but if you really want to shop for luxury brands, then Rodeo Drive in Hollywood is where you’ll find them. Likewise, food in the city ranges from traditional diners like Mel’s Drive In in Hollywood to Mexican, Chinese, and five star luxury, as well as everything in between. When you’re deciding where to stay in LA, the sights you want to see will dictate the area, but there are hotels scattered throughout the city, so your options are vast. Hollywood is, however, one of the most popular places to stay, and here you’ll find hotels like the Best Western Hollywood Hotel Plaza Inn, which puts you within walking distance of Universal Studios, or the Motel 6 Los Angeles – Hollywood, which is a more budget conscious option in the middle of town.
