Graceland, the home of Elvis, is the main attraction in the city of Memphis, Tennessee.
When most people think of Memphis, Tennessee, they think of Elvis. Since Graceland, the King’s iconic home, is in the city, this is no surprise, and that is almost certainly one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, however, there is a lot more to see and do in this bustling city.
Beale Street is another major attraction in Memphis, and it’s known locally as the ‘home of the blues’ so fans of this kind of music should not miss a chance to wander down the street, visit the bars and clubs, and listen to this distinctive type of music.
Of course, the Mississippi river runs through Memphis, and river tours are another popular option for visitors, as is Mud Island River Park, with it’s river and water themed museums and attractions, and the mono rail trip to the island.
Overton Park makes another pleasant day out, with the Overton Park Golf Course attracting keen golfers, and the Memphis zoo, with it’s animals and pandas, and the Brooks Art Museum just a few of the sights in the area.
If you are in Memphis to visit Graceland, you won’t be disappointed – there’s no wonder this is Memphis’s biggest tourist attraction, with vehicles, clothes, and even Elvis’s final resting place on display, and in January and August, known as Birth and Death Weeks respectively, this already Elvis mad city goes completely over the top!
There are plenty of eateries in Memphis, covering everything from deep fried treats a la Elvis to Thai cuisine, so you should be spoiled for choice, and with hotels like the Holiday Inn, the Peabody and the Memphis Marriott Downtown within a few streets of the bustling Beale Street, you can stay right where it all happens in Memphis.
