Playa Del Carmen is a beautiful Caribbean hotspot, and a popular tourist destination.
Not only is Playa Del Carmen a Caribbean hotspot, it’s also been that way for quite some time! In fact, there evidence that over two thousand years ago, Mayans used the beaches of Playa Del Carmen as a rest stop when travelling. If you love scuba diving, then Playa Del Carmen is also a great place to indulge your passion, or even learn the skill if you’ve never tried it. Then again, if you’re willing to make the six mile trip, Xcaret, just outside the city, gives you a unique ecological and archaeological look at Mexican culture and nature. Within the town itself, Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, is where most of the shopping, restaurants, clubs and other attractions are concentrated, so it’s well worth a look if you’re looking to spend or for a night time attraction. Of course, during the day, it’s the golden beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean that will keep most travelers busy, and with good reason. Unlike Cancun however, Playa as it’s locally known still retains that quaint, fishing village air, and while it is a popular tourist destination, it’s nowhere near as overrun as Cancun.
