Lima, the capital of Peru, is warm and tropical, and a perfect desstination for sun worshippers.
Peru’s capital, Lima, perched on the coast of the Pacific, and with several rivers finding their way to the ocean within the city, is a sprawling modern metropolis, but with many unique and interesting attractions to suit those looking for something just that little bit different. Warm and tropical, but in a desert, the city of Lima has it’s own unique climate, but that warm weather makes it the perfect destination for sun worshippers! Most of the best beaches are located a little to the south of the city, but are easily reached, and with golden sands and blue waters on offer, it’s worth making the effort to take the trip. Lima is also an ancient city though – with various tribes, and the Inca nation, calling the area home – however, it was during the Spanish conquest in the 16th century that the city truly began in it’s modern form. This long history, of course, means that there are many sites of historical and archaeological importance, such as Plaza Major, the palace of Torre Tagle, and many others are well worth a visit. Then again, being a Spanish city, there are plenty of cathedrals and churches, many of which are historic, and touring these is another popular activity. Or visit the ruins of the original city walls, to get a taste of what Lima might have been like hundreds of years ago. If you find yourself in Lima in October, you will be in time to celebrate the Festival of the Lord of Miracles, an important religious celebration, which involves the whole city, and infuses Lima with a feeling of celebration. Being a modern city, Lima also has plenty of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, and with a reputation as the gastronomical capital of Latin America, there are plenty of choices on offer – from spicy Creole dishes, to traditional Peruvian fare, to seafood and even sushi! Radisson, Marriot and many other top hotel chains are represented in Lima, and with plenty of other more budget friendly accommodations, as well as luxury resorts, guest houses and even back packer accommodation, Lima is priced for most budgets.
