The most visited historic site in Spain, the alhambra citadel, is in the breathtakingly beautiful city of Granada.

Granada, set at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the Andalusian region of Spain, is a breathtaking city, and an amazing destination for a vacation to remember. Probably one of the most famous monuments or landmarks in Granada, aside from the mountains, is the Alhambra citadel, which perches on a hill top, and is the most visited historic site in Spain. The citadel takes one back to a time when this region of Spain was under Islamic rule, and it’s certainly a must for anyone interested in history and culture. In fact, much of the city still retains architecture of bygone days, and whether you choose to stroll through the Albayzin, or Arab quarter, sampling traditional Arab dishes on Calle Caldereria, or explore the Archaeological Museum of Granada, you can almost feel the history in this beautiful part of the world. Of course, like most of Spain, the cuisine in Granada is spicy and exotic, and combined with the sunshine, history and culture, it’s most certainly an unforgettable experience to visit the city. Then again, if you decide you’ve seen enough history for one day, the beaches of the Costa Tropical are about an hour away, so you can spend a little time soaking up the sun.
