The town of Playa Del Inglis, on the south coast of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, imported sand from the Sahara, to form the dunes that line her beach.
The town of Playa Del Ingles is on the south coast of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. The name literally translates as ‘Englishman’s Beach,’ and, thanks to a large number of tourist from the UK and elsewhere in the world, it is living up to that name.
Once a farming community, the tourist boom on the island prompted the town’s conversion to a resort destination, including importing sand for the dunes that line the beach from the Sahara. Along that beach, there is an ever-increasing number of luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars and clubs, and it’s almost the perfect destination for a beach holiday.
The town is linked to other main tourist resort destinations on the island, and it is also possible to drive to the mountains to the north, and do a little hiking, if all that sun, sand, sea and fun gets a little too much for you.
If it’s a historic little seaside town that you are looking for, then Playa del Ingles is probably not the ideal destination for you, but if you want a holiday with all the modern conveniences, beautiful beaches, and sun in abundance, then this might just be the place.
