Allerton Castle, formerly known as "Allerton Park" is located on the outskirts of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, in-between Harrogate and York. It is about ten miles (16 km) east of Harrogate with the St Martin's Church standing just outside.
The Allerton Castle is well known for its grade-I architectural status and beauty. Not only that; this castle has been the home to Frederick Augustus, better known as "The Grand Old Duke of York". From the construction till present day the castle has changed many hands during the course of history and now run by the Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation for Historic Preservation and Education. Now rooms are available to book for organizing corporate events and weddings as well.
The Great Hall of Allerton Castle provides a magnificent entrance. The castle has seven major reception rooms, more than 40 major bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, and also a chapel standing on 40,000 square feet of ground area in total. A vast scale interior designing with a huge lantern on the galleried great hall is worth beholding. The famous "Duke and his 10,000 men" was said to have been originated or inspired by the ant-like activity of the Duke's people busy constructing the majestic Temple of Victory at the top of the 200 foot Allerton Hill within the Estate.
As the castle is just on the A1 highway, it ensures an easy travel experience. Hotels in the surroundings offer royal hospitality at reasonable costs, with the Bridge Hotel, the General Tarleton and the Goldsborough Hall to name a few. This awe-inspiring ambience at Allerton Castle is sure to impress and inspire the tourist and the guests alike.
