When in Birmingham, make sure to visit Cadbury World, the home of the camous chocolate brand.
Birmingham, in the West Midlands, has been around for a long time – since the middle ages to be exact, however, thanks to bombing during the second world war and a major face lift since the nineties, it’s a thoroughly modern city. The Birmingham International Airport has made getting in and out of Birmingham simple, and the fact that canals have been cleaned to make walkways for pedestrians, and that the city has a good public transport system, it’s easy to get around too. Chocolate lovers should make sure that they visit Cadbury World – the home of the famous chocolate brand. Enjoy a factory tour, a history of chocolate, free samples, and the opportunity to shop in the on site store. There are several parks in Birmingham, most of which are small, like the Cannon Hill and Lickey Street Parks, but if you’re interested in nature, heading to the Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses is a great idea, and followed up with a walk through the Nature Centre, with it’s deer, owls, and even rare red pandas, it’s a great day out. The National Sea Life Centre, with displays of everything from piranhas to otters is another interesting place to visit in the city, and parks like Sutton Park and Woodgate Valley Country Park, with their birds, animals, butterflies and flowers also make for a pleasant afternoon stroll. Nightlife is abundant in Birmingham, and one of the best places to visit is the oddly named Custard Factory, on Gibbs Street, which offers shopping during the day, and clubbing at night. There are plenty of other clubs, bars, theaters and other entertainment venues throughout the city, catering for everyone from students to yuppies, so you’re sure to find something to do after dark. Then again, if you’re travelling with children, you won’t want to miss Drayton Manor, the fourth most popular theme park in the United Kingdom. Staying in the city centre is easy, thanks to several chain hotels, like the Birmingham Marriott, the Hyatt Regency Birmingham and the Crowne Plaza Birmingham, but with everything from student hostels to luxury hotels, you’re sure to find something that suits your needs, and your pocket.
