Brighton is a very famous seaside resort in England, where Brighton Pier is the main atttraction.
Brighton is a very famous seaside resort city less than fifty miles from London. As of 2000, the city of Brighton joined up with neighboring Hove, and the area is now known as Brighton and Hove. Aside from being a popular seaside destination in the United Kingdom, Brighton is also fast becoming a residential location for people who work in London, but would rather not live there, and it’s also known as the unofficial gay capital of England. Brighton Pier, or the Palace Pier, is probably the epicenter of tourist activity in Brighton, with it’s arcade, food and other attractions. You can also see the remains of the old pier, which was derelict for years, and then burnt down. Brighton Beach is a pebble beach, not sand, but if you swim during low tide, you’ll be standing on sand – easier on the feet! During summer, the beach can get quite full too. North Laine is a haven for alternative lifestyle, from Rastafarians to Goths, and an area known as The Lanes is a little more mainstream, but still great for shopping. Then again, you could always tour the Royal Pavilion – which is an architectural masterpiece! In May, the city plays host to the Brighton Festival, and the Fringe festival, which are a celebration of the arts, music and more, and every June since 1980, the city has been the end point for the London to Brighton Bike Ride, in aid of the Heart Foundation. Brighton is a city that seems to be completely dedicated to fun and tourism, and if you do visit, you’re sure to have a great time. While you’re there, stay at the Granville Hotel, which is a small hotel, but right on the beach, or opt for a more luxurious option like the De Vere Grand – the only five star hotel in town.
