Clyde Auditorium is a must-see during your visit to Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland.
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, and has a population of nearly a million in the city itself, and nearly double that in the greater metropolitan area. It’s a mix of modern and ancient, culture and fun, and definitely worth a visit if you’re going to be in Scotland. The city of Glasgow is served by two airports – the Glasgow International Airport, and the Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, and while most of the flights to Glasgow International Airport are from international destinations, Prestwick has a significant number of flights from other parts of the UK. As you would expect from a major modern metropolis, there are trains, buses, boats and taxis operating, and getting around is no problem. Glasgow has some fascinating architecture, and it’s worth taking a walking or coach tour of the city to see the main sights, but make sure that Clyde Auditorium, otherwise known to locals as the Armadillo, is on your itinerary. Glasgow Cathedrals, built in the middle ages, is a fine example of Gothic architecture, and another must see, and there are many other local landmarks worth seeing. Galleries, museums and other places of interest abound in Glasgow, and whether you visit the Burrell Collection or the Gallery of Modern Art, or the fascinating Glasgow Science Centre, with the newly renovated Glasgow Tower, or even stroll through the Winter Gardens and the People’s Palace, you’ll have plenty to see and do. Shopaholics must see the Barras, a market in the East end of town that houses hundreds of stalls selling everything you could imagine, or St Enoch Centre, a huge mall, and Europe’s largest glass roofed building. Oddly enough, Glasgow has been the recipient of the ‘Curry Capital of Britain’ title twice, but there are hundreds of restaurants, serving everything from vegan dishes to fish and chips, and up market cuisine, so you’re sure to find something that you like. International hotel chains are well represented in Glasgow, and whether you choose the Crowne Plaza near the Clyde Auditorium, or the Marriott Glasgow, or even the Hilton Glasgow, you’re sure to find something comfortable. Most hotels are located near train stations too, which means that getting around this huge city is easy. Of course, if you are feeling flush, you could opt for the Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens – a celebrity hangout, and one of Scotland's best hotels.
